special programs
Special RE programming is scheduled throughout the year occasionally held outside of our Sunday service times.
Our Whole Lives
Our Whole Lives, OWL, is a series of lifespan sexuality education curricula. UUFWC offers classes for elementary ages (grades K-1 and grades 4th-6th) and Junior High (grades 7-9). OWL helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their bodies, sexual health and behavior. It equips participants with accurate, age-appropriate information in six subject areas: human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health, and society and culture. Grounded in a holistic view of sexuality, “Our Whole Lives” provides not only facts about anatomy and human development, but helps participants to clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality. Extensive information about OWL (Our Whole Lives) classes can be found at the UUA website: http://www.uua.org/re/owl. This offering is not well-suited to an online environment. This programming will resume in the future when we are able to return meeting in-person.
Wooster Hogwarts Summer Camp
For one week in the summer the UUFWC transforms into the Wooster Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Campers receive wands, robes, quills, and are sorted into a “house” following consideration of the Sorting Hat. Classes offered have been Herbology, Transfiguration, Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Care of Magical Creatures, and, of course, Quidditch. Based on both Harry Potter and the seven Unitarian Universalist Principles, volunteers lead classes and activities focused on real life social action skills to work for good in both the magical and Muggle worlds! This is currently on hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. We return to this when we are able to meet in-person.
